The new wool for Elisa Merino comes from Argentina and Uruguay. The sheep have access to huge, open pastures with natural vegetation. Flystrike is not widespread in South America because the fly species that causes it is not native to the region. Mulesing is also not practiced there, 100% of the time.
In Argentina and Uruguay, merino sheep are not completely shorn. They keep some of their wool – on the one hand to avoid injuring the animals during shearing, and on the other hand to prevent them from freezing after shearing. The sheep are shorn once a year; if this is not done, they suffer from the weight and the heat in summer.

High-quality wool is always particularly elastic. The finer the wool fibers and the more crimped the hair, the higher the elasticity. The unit used to indicate the fineness of fibers is called a micron. A micron is a thousandth of a millimeter. The smaller the micron number of a fiber, the finer it is.
Elisa Merino extrafine has a fiber thickness of only 19 microns, which makes it cuddly soft.

The new wool obtained in Argentina and Uruguay is brought to Northern Italy for further processing. In a small town between Turin and Milan, the merino wool is spun into fashionably dyed balls.
The dyeing and processing is done under Ökotex 100 Product Class 1 Standard.
This makes Elisa Merino perfect for baby and children's models.
